Charlotte and I have four or five conversations that run in a constant loop throughout the day. Here is a sample of my least favorite:
Me: "Charlotte please don't do that."
Charlotte: "But I can."
Me: "I know you can. I'm asking you to please not."
Charlotte: "I will."
Me: "Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop."
I'm not entirely sure how to impart the idea that just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

HAHA if Jack could talk that well I am sure he would say that! So frustrating!!
Remember the story about Rachael telling herself "No, no, no, Rachael" as she pulled all the books off the bookshelves? It just takes time for "but I can" to be over-ridden by "But I shouldn't". Different amount of time for each child. Charlotte has a pretty strong sense of self - might take a bit longer.
reading this post gave me dejavou. asher and charlotte are two peas in a pod!
