In His "Off Time"

Just look at what my sweet husband installed last weekend!

First the before:

The fireplace surround is cement pressed into a broken brick pattern and then painted red.

And then the after:

Doesn't it look beautiful? In case you can't see it we picked 3"x6" travertine tiles with smaller tiles as accents. Then Daniel, who is incapable of just doing something plain, installed the tiles on the floor in a herringbone pattern. We ended up with only 4 tiles to spare. Pretty good judgement I'd say. Also, he installed a working, ventless gas log insert! It is so much fun to actually have a fire in our fireplace!

He is so talented, and it looks so beautiful! I sort of want to go back in your archives and find the "before" pictures from when you started on the house. You guys have done so much work, and it looks so great! It has been fun to see your progress!

Dan is the tile master.

It REALLY looks beautiful! He's really good at spatial planning to do that without a layout.

I would have drawn it all up on my computer...

He drew some guide lines for the herringbone onto the concrete below the tiles. And yeah, he's awesome with spatial planning. I think that'll really come in handy in his future.

Tell him his dad is proud of him, but we still have to start at different ends to lay the flagstone path
