Charlotte Sweb

I love my baby's name. It was my husband's idea to name her Charlotte, but when he suggested it I loved it so there you have it. I pretty much figured we were having a girl since we could agree on a girl name and would have had the fight of the century over the boys. Now I'm a little worried though. Every child that hears her name responds, "Like Charlotte's Web?" Now I know they're just excited to make the association and it doesn't bother me one bit. I'm just worried that eventually it might bother my baby. So what I'd like to hear from anyone that would like to tell me is something along the lines of, "It's OK, her name is awesome and she'll love it!" If you have any disparaging comments please keep them to yourself. Thank you for your support.

I love the name Charlotte and I love naming children after literature. Wentworth Miller in Prison Break was named after Capt Wentworth in Persuasion. If that's not hot I don't even know what is....

I bet she will love her name. And if she doesn't, I'm sure she can give herself a nickname until it grows on her more. How did you find my blog? Funny that we both posted about similar things today!

Silly girl, it's not like you chose a name that was a goofy character. You picked a name that was associated with a very loved, noble, selfless, smart character. What's not to love?
I read the post about Charlotte's Web and was thinking all of the time about how much you loved "Sarah Plain and Tall" and then that's what you remembered too.
Do you remember how much you loved the Angelina Ballerina stories? The Indian in the cupboard? The last of the really great Wangdoodles? The Jolly Postman?

Charlotte is a beautiful name.

And your mom is right... the association is with a noble character.

What is nice is that it is a pretty girl's name, and also suitable for an actress, an artist, a dancer, a CEO or president of the United States.

And if she turns out to be a tomboy... Charlie!

Too cute!

My name is Tammy and I think that it sounds like nothing but a cheerleader. Ugh.

Jenny-

I've actually been a lurker on your blog for, oh, at least a year now so I don't really remember how I found you the first time. I know I started just clicking on links from my sister's blogroll and then other's and other's until I found your sister's blog and then clicked on yours. Now you and your sister are pretty much daily reads. Usually the only thing I would have to comment would be I agree, which is pretty much boring so I don't write anything.

Mom-

I did love Indian in the Cupboard. One of my favorite things is knowing I'm a reader because my mom taught me to love books. I always thought I wasn't much of a reader because I compaired myself to you and Katie. You both read so much more than I did. Then I realized that I read more than other kids my age so maybe I am a reader. Thanks.

I think Charlotte is a beautiful name. My friend named her oldest Charlotte and she is now a super cute 4-year-old. I do think of Charlotte's Web, but mostly the name Charlotte evokes an image of someone elegant and pretty.

Little kids make associations with things they know & like- Nate said the checker in our Denver neighborhood Safeway was "Chocolate - like my eyes". Bless her heart, she said that that was one of the nicest things anyone had said to her all day. The kids that mention "Charlotte's Web" do it because they think it is cool to recognize her name and want to connect with the baby. And Auntie Heather (who WAS a cheerleader and 7th in her class, thank you) already calls her Charlie.
What did Aunt Marci say? After all her time in the pubilc schools, I'm sure she would reassure you that Charlotte is a wonderful name - a "real" name that is distinctive and elegant but not pretencious or weird.

Hey Dan's mom... that checker story is so cute!

It reminded me of when I was very small... sitting in the car in a parking lot as mom and my brother and I ate ice cream cones on a hot day.
While we devoured the treat, my young eyes spotted the first real live black person I'd ever seen in South Dakota.

"Mom, look at that chocolate guy!"

Ooh, she shushed me fast! Even though our windows were down, I'm sure he didn't hear!

My grandmother's name is charlotte, and my baby cousin was lucky enough to be named after her. Its a wonderful name! my baby cousin is now in college and has never had any issue with her name :)

my name is Charlotte and I absolutely love it! I am now interested to know who posted above me because I was named after my grandmother and am in college... I was named after both of my grandmas and so was one of my cousins, only Charlotte is her middle name, she is about 10 years older then me and anyone that has met her since she has graduated from college refers to her as Charlotte, not by her first name. My family or people close to me will sometimes call me Charlie, but I am still mostly called Charlotte. I love when I am out and I see someone else named Charlotte because I will start a conversation with them because it is an unusual name.

People do question, charlotte? as in charlotte's web? but at least that is a classic story and something good to be associated with... one problem I find is when people try to spell my name and get it wrong it is most often because they sounded it out and it comes out as "charolette." But other then that I love my name and think its beautiful. Some other nicknames for it besides Charlie are Char and Lottie so there are options... I hope she loves the name as much as I love mine!

I like the name Charlotte very much. Maybe it's because it is my name.
