This is the same angle as the one above. Dan seems to be inspecting that huge hole in the wall used to plumb the sink. If you'll notice the lower cabinets are gone. I'm proud to say that I'm the one that helped Dan take them down to the basement. It was tricky getting it down the hole to the back door, but we managed.
Here we see the wall further on. The wood pannelling has been taken of the bottom half of the walls. That's why it looks so funky right now.
Further down the wall to the corner we see the door to the pantry and the spot where the new LG fridge (that was delivered today!!!) will eventually reside.
This shot is taken from where Dan is standing in the photo above looking back to the hall.
This is the hardwood we exposed after ripping up the linoleum. You can't see it in the photo, but there's staples in the floor about every 3 inches. Who thought they needed to do that? They are really hard to get out. Guess who's project that is?
Looking at these pictures a few days later things don't even look the same anymore. The old stove was taken away when Slyman Bro's delivered our new stove and the wall cabinetry is also gone. Things are really moving around here!

Wow! Nice work.
How deep is that spot for the fridge? It looks shallow. (is that the right term for what I mean? I was going to say narrow but that doesn't go with deep does it?!)
Can't wait to see what you do with the kitchen.
Can you post your design plan?
The spot for the fridge is really shallow. The fridge will stick out a ways, but will have plenty of clearance between it and the stove to get to the pantry in the corner.
PS. I'd love to post my design plan, if I knew how, I would do it. Right now it's mostly a collection of drawings, printouts, and recipts from Home Depot.
You 2 have been very busy since we left! Since there was evidence of rodents, it will help to close all holes in the walls, even if they would be covered with cabinets. Rodents are sneaky AND they can collapse themselves to get through very small spaces. Stuff fine steel wool around all openings for pipes, too
Oh yeah, I'm glad you reminded us. It'll be easier to do that when the holes are accessable.
Dan's hoping to get the floors sanded by Saturday, but I think he's dreaming. Monday's more like it.
WOW! You're moving quick. This is going to be the coolest summer project EVER.
Keep taking pictures so we can track your progress
PS - the holes in the wall can be used to reroute the eletrical wires so you can (and should, codes may require them) have outlets in your backsplash area. If I remeber, the only outlet for the cabinets was added next to the floor near the window wall. It would be nice to have a place to plug in things like the mixer, waffle iron - you might even add undercabinet lights.
What a fun summer project. I had the same problem with our floors. Those staples are a pain! I found that I could get them out best by using pliers and while standing over the staple, pull for all it was worth.
A difficult job, but way worth it in the end. I look forward to seeing the project to the end.
