You've Got to be Kidding Me

Anyone that tells you that their 1-2 month old baby sleeps 10+ hours a night every night, without waking up is full of bologna. And if they then go on to say that their baby only wants to eat every 7-8 hours in a day their also full of it. Either that or they have a very out of the ordinary baby.

Maggie,
Our daughter slept that long through the night within three weeks. We were pretty lucky. And I would say that anybody whose baby only eats every 7-8 hours during the day is starving their baby. We were incredibly lucky with our daughter Katya, though.

You are very lucky! I don't think that the girl is starving her baby, I think she just has no idea how often she's feeding her. I base this on the fact that she fed her twice while we were talking together for about three hours.

Maybe her 1-month-old only eats solid foods every 7-8 hours.

Seriously though, Maggie, have you read Baby Wise? It's highly controversial and you seem to be doing fine without it, but Liam started sleeping through the night the day I finished that book. I think I would have lost my sanity without it.

Thanks for the book recommendation. I've been hearing that title a lot lately so maybe I'll get my hands on a copy.

Before we moved Charlotte was only having one feeding at night and then going right back to sleep. I think it's the combination of the two week vacation in Washington (a time zone back) a week at home and then a move to Missouri (a time zone ahead). Plus all the excitement of packing and unpacking and running around during times that she should be napping that has totally wiped her out. I'm going to try to take the next two days to be at home during the times she used to nap and see what happens.

I don't really see why Babywise is so controversial. We use it and it makes a lot more sense than many of the other things I have heard. In a nutshell, it says, crying usually means your baby is hungry, so if your baby cries, feed it, unless you don't think it should be fed. I know a couple people who have used different methods: one used Babywise, and her daughter is an angel, goes to sleep without fussing and crying for hours. The other lady uses the "when my baby cries, she is always hungry, and so I will feed her every time she cries" and that kid is a spoiled brat. These are just anecdotal obviously, but instant gratification is not something I want my kids to be addicted to before they are a year old.

I agree with you. My baby doesn't do either. But since he is 17.6 pounds at 4 months I don't think he would make it going very long at night. We get about 4-5 hours at a time. Oh this is betsie call
